Here are some tools that can help you determine real page load time:
Google Page Insights - This helps to measure your overall website speed, but breaks it down into smaller parts. They’ll also give you a complete breakdown of all the things slowing your site down, with a prioritized list.
Load Impact - When lots of people come to your website at once, it inevitably slows down. Load Impact simulates thousands of people accessing your site, and then tests its response by sending pings from 10 different locations, different mobile networks, and browsers.

One of the best tools to check your website speed is gtmetrix.com, it gives a lot of information and insights about the website. Another tool that I kinda like is tools.pingdom.com, however, I just recently discovered it and not sure if I can trust it.

Ideal Website Load Time – 2 to 5 seconds. However, each second beyond 2 seconds results in greater bounce rates. In fact, 40% of polled internet users report abandoning a site if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. Moreover, 47% of users expect desktop sites to load in 2 seconds or less.
