The crawler as the first part which is responsible for the collection of data from web pages. The second part is the indexer which creates a searchable index of the collected raw data for the search engines.

Crawling:
When Google visits your website for tracking purposes. This process is done by Google’s Spider crawler.

Indexing:
After crawling has been done, the results get put onto Google’s index (i.e. web search).

Crawling and indexing are two distinct things and this is commonly misunderstood in the SEO industry. Crawling means that Googlebot looks at all the content/code on the page and analyzes it. Indexing means that the page is eligible to show up in Google's search results.

Crawling is the process through which indexing is done. Google crawls through the web pages and index the pages.

Indexing is the process of “adding webpages into Google search”.

1) Crawling
A web crawler, or what those in the SEO world call spiders or bots, is an automated program that follows Google’s algorithm to examine the content and structure of pages. Google wants you to include the following information for it to easier understand your content; title tags, meta descriptions, headings, content, and more. The reason for this is so that the bots can interpret the content, categories, and products within a page.

2) Indexing
Google search index is a database that stores billions of web pages. Google search index organizes the content within the web that has been crawled, it can be easier described as a library for Google. When a user types in a query, Google searches the index to find the most relevant and applicable pages for the user. When crawlers find a web page they render the content. The webpages are then indexed into Google searches database.

Crawling - It is the discovery process in which search engines send out a team of robots (known as crawlers or spiders) to find new and updated content. Content can vary — it could be a webpage, an image, a video, a PDF, etc. — but regardless of the format, content is discovered by links.

Indexing - Search engines process and store information they find in an index, a huge database of all the content they’ve discovered and deem good enough to serve up to searchers.
