The most optimized URL structure according to my experience in Ecommerce for a Global Website should be

<Domain>/Category/

<Domain>/Category/SubCategory(optional)/

<Domain>/Category/SubCategory(optional)/Product/

<Domain>/Category/SubCategory(optional)/Product/variant

example

http://www.mystore.com/home-appliances/washing-machines/ifb/20kg/

Make sure you use Hyphens (-) ONLY in url (no underscrores _ or dots .)

Make sure you have a trailing slash in the end of URL

Make sure each of the page listed above shows up relevant information like category URL should display all relevant subcategories. Product url should display all product variants..
