A segment is a subset of your Analytics data. For example, of your entire set of users, one segment might be users from a particular country or city. Another segment might be users who purchase a particular line of products or who visit a specific part of your site.

Hi Friend,
The segment is a subset of data which you would like to see for a specific part only.

Example: Today you would like to know, what is happening in the US at a particular time who are coming directly on to your website?

Usually, the segment will help you get the set of audience who are actually qualifying your conditions.
Now, what is the benefit of it? How can we leverage the usage of segments?

Create 2 different segments and compare them to see the difference
Create an audience to perform remarketing
Segments once you create, can be applied to all the reports to check how each report is showing
