You'll retain absolute control. When you host your website yourself, the only person in control of the server is you. You can tweak whatever settings you want, you can modify things to make your site run better, and if there's a problem, you won't have to go to tech support or wait for hours to get a response.

Just follow these steps:

Register a domain name.
Buy a web hosting space.
Once the above steps are completed, change the nameservers from web hosting on the domain registrar account if you purchased domain name and web hosting from two different companies.
Once nameservers are done it may take some time to point your domain name to web host. It might take around 24 to 48 hours but in most of the cases it takes only few minutes.
Once it redirects, you can start uploading your codes to the hosting via FTP or file manager.
Most of the web host provide detail instructions on how to upload the source code.
