What is "Not Set" in Google Analytics?

(not set) is a placeholder name that Analytics uses when it hasn't received any information for the dimension you have selected. The reasons for (not set) appearing as a dimension value vary according to the report.

“not set” in Google Analytics tells us that Google Analytics didn’t receive any information for the item you selected. It’s usuallyassociated with any direct/referral visit, so it does not have campaign information like as keyword, match type, etc. associated with the visit.

Go to your Google Analytics standard reports.
Select the “Admin” button on the top right.
Click “Profile Settings”
Look down to “Ecommerce Settings” and select “Yes, and Ecommerce Site” from the drop-down menu.
Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page.

(Not Set) = A direct visit or a referral from another site

This is a little more complicated, but basically refers to a catch-all for information Google Analytics wasn't able to identify. For example, if you see landing page = (not set), it probably means that session didn't have a page or screen view
