es, Image size effect your on-page SEO in WordPress or in any CMS. The main effect of image-size is that it increases the page size and hence the higher page loading time.
For better content you must require quality visuals but you have to keep the page speed in mind as well.
Here are some ways to optimize the images without loosing it’s quality
Serve images in next web gen format
Try to lazyload your images
Use original size image (don’t use resizing css on images)

Loading times are important for UX and SEO. ... Images can have a big impact on loading times, especially when you upload a huge image to display it really small – for example, a 2500×1500 pixels image displayed at 250×150 pixels size – as the entire image still has to be loaded.

Yes, image size do effect on page seo by directly affecting the webpage load speed. The more the image size the more is total page size and if total page size increase above 3MB your page will get flagged as you will increase your load speed. The more the load speed the more is the bounce rate, the more is the bounce rate you will face ranking issue. so image size is important part which is to be consider while uploading on any CMS

Loading times are important for UX and SEO. ... So resize the image to how you want it displayed. WordPress helps by automatically providing the image in multiple sizes after uploading it. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the file size is optimized as well, that's just the image display size.
