Hi,
Manual placements give the option the choose the specific websites, location, video, apps in which you can show your Google AdWords ad. Automatic placements is another placement method which automatically shows your ads and you won’t have the option to choose.

With managed placement, you're handpicking the top blogs and websites in your target area to show your Google Ads. In this scenario, you are confident in your local knowledge of the top publishers in your state or locality.

With automatic placement, you are telling Google to pick for you based on topic, affinity or keyword semblance to the content of your website or mobile app. Google is going to select a wide range of website publishers based on the data it has on them. This is often not accurate but it saves a lot of time especially when you have no knowledge of the top publishers in your target area.

With automatic placements, Google uses contextual targeting to match your ads to appropriate GDN sites. With managed placements, you specify which sites you want to display your ads.

Managed placements allows you to choose exactly which sites your ads are going to be placed on, allowing you to choose the domains which are most relevant to your audience and their link to your brand, products, or services, or those websites which have proven successful in generating clicks and conversions in the past

Managed placements, an optional yet powerful feature in GDN, help you to have more control over it. You can indicate which websites, YouTube channels or app categories you're going to target with your ads. Or, going even further, listing specific URLs, videos or apps is also possible within the interface.
