There are 5 categories:
-Broad match
-Broad match modifier
-Phrase Match
-Exact Match
-Negative Match

There are 4 kinds of keyword match types. It’s very important for SEO. I think it’s key to success in SEO. If you do the wrong keyword match you could penalty by Google or your page never Position in google page #1.
i.e. Your main keyword is - Food Shop in the USA
Broad Match keyword. “Food Shop in California” - In California broad match
Phrase Match Keyword. “Best Food Shop in California” - best and in California is phrase match
Exact Match Keyword. [Food Shop in the USA] - exact match
Negative Match Keyword. Hotels in California
