Hello,
One of my clients has a website (for example www.mainsite.com). For the products he sells we register extra domain names that correspond to the product. for example www.product1.com en www.product2.com.
These extra domain names are not to improve search engine position but to generate more traffic by entering the direct url and to prevent other companies from claiming these names.
I've come up with the following strategy to prevent duplicate content.
1. From an extra domain you can access all mainsite pages. When you use a extra domain uri we do a 301 redirect to the main domain. For example:
www.product1.com/contact (301) www.mainsite.com/contact
2. When using an extra domain without page you directly go the product page on the main site. for Exmaple:
www.product1.com (301) www.mainsite.com/product1
Is this the right way to do this?
thanks, Peter
