Subdirectories geo-targeting: Targeting a language to a single country affects

Hello everyone,
I have enabled a plugin which translated our site to subdirectories. We are going to geo target certain language sites to their countries. but targeting a language affects a country SEO ranking ?

As per my knowledge,
If the main directory & subdirectory is different, it won't affect your website!

It should help get more traffic from people who speak that language. If people use that language to search it should help listing in search engines over sites that do not use it.
