The ideal page size for a website or blog depends on your site. Some sites are 150kb-200kb and work good. It is the same deal as page load if you have plugins and large images or videos the page size goes up and the page load slows down.

It depends if you have a lot of images then page size should be less than a site with few images and text. Just make sure what ever page size you have loads under 2 seconds.
