Rich Snippets is the term used to describe structured data markup that site operators can add to their existing HTML, which in turn allow search engines to better understand what information is contained on each web page.

Rich snippets are extra bits of text, data or visual content that appear in the abstracts or summaries of a Google search engine results page. These can take many forms, including bits of informational text, visual formats such as ratings or other icon indicators, small profile pictures, etc.

Rich snippets are Google search results with some additional data such as ratings, recipes, icons, events, etc.

Normal Google search results show you meta title, meta description, and URL, which is known as simple snippet; whereas rich snippets show you all the "simple snippet" data and add some other things also.

As rich snippets include more data and look attractive, there are more chances of getting clicks and increasing CTR.

Google takes structured data from your page's HTML and creates such rich snippets.

So here, structuring your data comes into the picture, if your data is not properly structured, Google will take more time to analyze it; for example, if your blog is about a recipe, it would be difficult for Google to find out ingredients, pictures, cooking time, and other things if your data is not properly structured.

You can create structured data by adding recipe markup to your page and tell Google > here are the pictures of the dish, ingredients of the dish, and preparation time of the dish... if everything is done right, Google will show your data in the search result as a rich snippet.
