In simple terms, link velocity is the total number of websites linking to your site. It is determined by divide the number of referring domains do in the last month by the total monthly number of linking domains. What is link velocity used for? Link velocity can be used to determine whether your SEO efforts are making a positive effect on your search engine rankings or if other factors have changed. If you notice a significant increase in link velocity this may indicate a new SEO effort is starting to work, or an effort that was already being employed has had an impact and you can track the progress as time progresses.***************

Link velocity is the rate your site gets new links back to it. If search engines see sharp rise in how many backlinks your site has they might think it is not natural. They also look at quality of links so if you have thousands of links show up that are not on websites related to your sites topic it could hurt your website.
