Spamdexing (also known as search engine spam, search engine poisoning, black-hat search engine optimization, search spam or web spam) is the deliberate manipulation of search engine indexes.

Search engine spamming or spamdexing is the practice of using website content and architecture to deceive search engines into returning results that are not relevant to the search query. It works by creating a page that has lots of incoming links, often with anchor text that matches certain keywords. This forces the target engine to wrongly assume that the page has some bearing on those keywords, and as a result, it will index this page when a user searches for those keywords.
