The biggest SEO factor not in your control is Google! How exactly Google ranks websites is unknown. The company does not make public the search algorithms it uses, although SEO professionals have determined the best practices we adhere to in order to achieve results. However, Google doesn’t like young domains that aren’t yet tried-and-true, and you can’t control that if you’re launching a new site. Nor can you force people to link to your site, share your content, spend more time on your site, or come back to your site for another visit. Google looks favorably on all of these factors and ideally a marketing department is working hard to create content and user experiences that will make these happen, but these factors are beyond the control of the SEO person.

Factors Not Under Your Control
Search Engine Algorithms: Algorithms for searching and ranking criteria that a search engine employs, like Google, are proprietary in nature and change over time. Meaning, changes often come unannounced, as do rank for any site.
Quality and Quantity of Backlinks: You can create a content and outreach strategy to obtain some backlinks, but you cannot determine who links to your site or the quality of those links. Reputation and relevance of the linking domains are very important factors.
User Engagement Metrics: Included metrics are time spent on site, bounce rates, and click through rates-all of these cannot be done much with considering your user behavior. This can affect value assigned to your site by search engines.
Competitor Actions: Your competitors may be optimizing on their websites, too; that surely helps them. If your competitor improves his or her SEO strategy, or even gets some high-value backlinks, then this impacts your visibility.
Spam and Negative SEO: Spam links to your site, or negative actions by your competitors - so-called negative SEO harm your rankings. You are limited in your ability to prevent or mitigate such issues.
Domain Age and Authority: A newer domain will struggle to compete with an old one, for search engines like older sites better, and they appear authoritative. This can't be modified, as it is just part of the domain registration.
Social Signals: You can always encourage social sharing, but you have no control of how these shares are carried out over the different social media channels. Indirectly, social signals affect visibility and traffic.
Knowledge of such uncontrollable factors helps in designing a robust SEO strategy that is aimed at assimilation with the optimization of items under one's control and adaptation to external factors.
