We are currently reviewing options for moving our organization from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. The main concern is not simply transferring emails. We also have contacts, calendars, Google Drive files, labels, attachments, and several user accounts that need to be handled properly.
One issue I have noticed with migration projects is that exporting everything first and then importing it manually can become difficult to manage. Folder structures may change, duplicate items can appear, and checking every mailbox individually takes a lot of administrative time. For a larger environment, I think it makes more sense to have a defined mapping between the source Google accounts and the Microsoft 365 destination accounts before starting the actual migration.
Another important point is authentication. For multiple users, signing into every mailbox separately isn't very practical. Using administrator-based authentication and CSV mapping can make the process more manageable, especially when dozens of accounts are involved. Date filtering and duplicate handling can also be useful when only specific data needs to be transferred.
From what I have researched, a Google Workspace to Office 365 migration can be performed either through manual export/import methods or through dedicated migration software. The manual approach may work for a small number of accounts, but it becomes more complicated when Drive data, calendars, contacts, and mailbox hierarchy are also part of the project.
I am also looking at the SysInfo Google Workspace to Office 365 Migration Tool (https://www.sysinfotools.com/g-suite-to-office365-migration.php) because it supports mailbox mapping, Google Workspace authentication, Microsoft 365 destinations, date-based filtering, and options to skip previously migrated items. The local processing approach is also something I would want to evaluate before using it for an actual business migration.
For organizations dealing with mergers, employee account changes, or domain restructuring, I think testing a small group of mailboxes first would be important. A validation report can help identify missing permissions, unsupported items, duplicate data, or mapping problems before the complete migration starts.
Has anyone here handled a large Google Workspace migration to Microsoft 365? I would be interested in hearing how you approached account mapping, Drive files, duplicate handling, and post-migration verification.
