Well I think both are good but Magento is best as per seo perspective. Because it is much advance and has SEO friendly file structure. All open source are good for SEO as they are SEO friendly.

Both are related to Ecommerce.

They are open source shopping cart softwares.

Both are open source shopping cart softwares related to E-Commerce. These are not effective for seo ranking.

I think Zen-Cart and Magento are suitable for reference as there are many good SEO plugins for use in these two platforms. Personally, I prefer Zen-cart and use it to build all my own e-commerce sites.

I think both Zen-Cart and Magento are great options for SEO but I more prefer Magento than Zen-Cart. Its fact that open source platforms are really good for SEO. So I prefer Magento.
