I’m looking at gold chains and can’t decide what thickness actually looks good in person. Is 3–4 mm enough, or does it look too thin on its own?

Jumping in on this older post because I’ve worn a 3.5 mm chain alone for years and it looks great—not too thin at all. 4 mm has more presence if you want something bolder. What kind of lifestyle or outfits are you pairing it with? That really changes what feels substantial.

A 3–4mm chain can work if you prefer a subtle look, but worn alone it may feel a bit flimsy. I personally like something closer to 5mm for a standalone piece. My go-to for everyday wear has been fine jewelry (http://oathjewelry.com) from Oath Jewelry, since their solid gold chains hold up beautifully without feeling delicate or cheap.
