My website has PR6, before live update it was on PR7. We are overmuch favorite or top 3 among our themed websites. Now, what just should be change for us to get PR 8 or higher / which steps we should not locomote or shall change to avoid in future steps. Most blogs add nofollow attribute on their comments, except dofollow blogs. Twitter put nofollow attribute to all the links inside it. Both are useless in pagerank building.

1.Use lots of meta keyword tags
2.Make sure you include at least one link to Google
3.Use invisible text but make it close - colors like 00FF33 & 00FF66 are both browser safe, but are so 4.close most humans can't tell the difference

5.Dots, Dots, and More Dots. Put them at the bottom of your document like this:

I will suggest you to generate only Quality back links. From high authority sites, high PR site (4 to 9) and my experience says that posting articles in DoFollow and high PR sites will surely help you.. All da best.
