Social media 'increasingly important to SEO'
Social media marketing is becoming an increasingly important tool when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO), one expert claims.
According to an article for Search Engine Watch by Optify's Erez Barak, businesses cannot afford to leave social media sites out of their SEO strategies.
Claiming that this is where businesses will find the bulk of their audience, he adds that such platforms also contribute to search engine rankings.
Explaining that both Bing and Google have confirmed that social factors now influence rank, he claims that factors such as Facebook 'likes' can help brands to climb the results pages.
Mr Barak says that companies will need to measure the results of their campaigns in real time, such as how they are performing on their target keywords on both Google and Bing, as well as local and international scales.
Similarly, social indicators such as 'likes' should also be tracked, alongside the influence of those who give them.
Recently, Google changed its results pages to include social media entries alongside standard listings.
