A web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are usually presented in a list of results and are commonly called hits. The information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files.

As the name implies, search engine is a website used to search for information over the web. Examples of this are Google, Yahoo, Bing, Msn and Ask Jeeves. You just need to type in your keywords for a list of related websites to appear. Hope this helps :)

The search engine is a tool designed to find out the desired information on the internet. There are algorithm to operate search engines. The each and every web site or web page will be indexed and the data will be stored in the search engine database for the later queries. Whenever the user inputs the query generally known as keywords, the engine will search into the indexed database and provide the best match result on the screen.

Yes “Auston”, you are right that a web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. We can say that a search engine is a website that searches the Internet for pages and documents relevant to the search terms given. Search engines use robots known as spiders to 'crawl' the web for new content to add to the possibilities for search results.
