View Full Version : Recommend Specs for a vBulletin Forum?

CPU 2x Intel E5506
Core(s) 8
Speed 2.13GHz
RAM 24GB
RAID Type RAID 1 Software
Hard Drive(s) 2x 1,000GB
Available Storage 1,000GB
This is my current set-up on a forum with the average users online being 400-500. This is obviously overkill. Any suggestions to what my specs should be to run this forum smoothly?
Firstly I'd reduce the RAM from 24GB to 12GB, perhaps lower?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
George. ;)

Think you should lowen it. Even such a big resources as Digitalpoint do not require that amount of RAM.
Suppose you will have good performnace at twice lower specs. For example the plan "server III (http://hostingsource.com/advanced_linux_server_plans.php)" from hostingsource.com will meet the needs of almost any vBulletin Forum.

What server location are you interested in?
Do you have any budget requirements?

I strongly believe that you need to read other clients' or customers' testimonials before making any final order.

Have you already checked web hosting offers section here at hostsearch?
I am sure that VPS hosting solution will suit your requirements without doubt.
I can put forward a suggestion to have a look at Glowhost (http://www.Glowhost.com) - it has vBulletin specialty - it means that these guys know how to keep everything working.
Hope they will suit your needs.

To OP,
Could you tell us the host you give your preference from all mentioned here?
Or have you already made your final choice?

Make sure the host has the payment option your looking for. I don't even think twice about a host that doesn't accept paypal.

Those specs should be even too high for vB which though beiong resource-eating engine is not really that much carnivorous.
I may advise looking throughthe deals of hostingsource.com, which is able, I think, to meet your vb-needs.

1paket.com is the company which is able to meet the needs of the OP.
They offer many dedicated servers (http://www.1paket-shop.com/epages/61732624.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61732624/Categories/%22Dedicated%20Server%20with%20Unmetered%20Traffic %22) of different configurations which cost little and their support is provided around the clock.

With such specs you can locate more than one big active forum with high performance, I'd suggest you to lower RAM and hard drive and try to use solutions from hostome.com. I believe that they are able to satisfy your demands
