Backlinks are links that point back to your website or in other words, when a website adds a link to your website on theirs or when you place a link back to your website on another website such in the case of forums, blogs, and any other websites that are willing to put your link on it.

A back link is an inward link to your site that may or may not be reciprocated with an outward link back. If page A links to page B then a back link would be a link which goes from page B back to page A.

basically the more links you have to your site from other sites / locations, the more hits / traffic you will get. It's common sense really :)

Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node. Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

A back link is a link from another page/site back to yours. There are 2 things you should look for in a back link, quality & relevance. A back link should come from a quality source and should be relevant to your niche.

A backlink is a link coming from another website to your own. The number and quality of backlinks that your site has can affect your search engine optimization efforts, as some search engines provide significant weight to the backlinks of a site.

If you blog with Blogger.com, then the term 'backlink' has a very specific definition that is used to identify all incoming links to your blog from other Blogger.com blogs that link to one of your posts. Backlinks are published as links within the Comments section of your blog post that the other Blogger.com blog linked to. For Blogger.com users, backlinks act as a tap on the shoulder from one blogger to another to let the original source know that they've been linked to.

Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node.[1] Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO). The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (for example, this is used by Google to determine the PageRank of a webpage). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest.
