There are some difference in Dofollow and Nofollow.

1.Dofollow site is give you a back link and Nofollow site is not give back link to your domain.
2.Dofollow link is crawl by search engine and Nofollow is not crawl by search engine.

Nofollow are for not crawling a link by search engine. Dofollow allow search engine to crawl links. Nofollow tag we can use if we are using a link for reference not for crawl. Both are good for human traffic.

Dofollow Link is a hyperlink that is able to acquaint all search engines to pass along it’s page rank influence to an outbound link. Nofollow Link is absolutely the opposite. It is a hyperlink that removes the ability to pass on it’s page rank status to other sites.

You can't get any backlinks if all of them are no-follow. So the first thing to look around is whether a forum provides dofollow links or not.
