There are many File Transfer(FTP) clients via which you can upload your website on Hosting providers server from where it will be accessible to others. There are various FTP clients like FileZilla, cURL, FireFTP, etc. FileZilla is the easiest and the most used FTP client.

The most common way used for uploading a website is through FTP. The other ways through which you can upload your website is through SSH or uploading files through your browser.

Following Steps are for Windows. There are similar steps if you are using Linux platform.
1) Open FileZilla
2) Click on the File Menu and the click on Site Manager...
3) Click on New Site and write a name for the site
4)Fill the site details as follows:
Host: Your web host will provide this. (e.g. yoursite.org or ftp.yoursite.org)
Logontype: Change the logontype to Normal.
User and Password : Your web host will also provide this information
5) Click on Advanced...
6) Change the default local to your websites's folder. (To browse your files click on "...")
7) If your website needs to be in the public_html folder (some hosting services require this) or if you have your files in a
different folder you need to change the Default Remote to such folder (e.g. public_html).
If you are not sure about whether to specify the public_html folder or not, try both cases and notice which action triggers
changes in your website.
8) Click OK.
9) On the Site Manager, click on Connect.
10) You should be able to see your website's files in the left of the screen and an empty folder on your right.
(try maximizing the window if you can't see your files clearly). Highlight all the files of your website (try clicking on the first file and then holding down the shift key while you press the down arrow).
11)Right-click on the selected files and click on Upload.

That is kind of long step :) I would rather go for FTP.
