There are clearly a lot of people on this site that understand the dark arts of backlinks. What I really would like to know is it better to simply link your keywords to the main site home page, or is it better to actually have deep backlinks to other pages on your site? I have read a lot of comments on the benefits of backlinks but very few people ever touch on deep backlinks.
Thanking everyone in anticipation.

If you have many keywords, it make sense to target your deep links so that it can help create the perfect landing page for your visitors.

You may already know about the importance of backlinks for your blog or website (if not, check out our post about high pagerank backlinks), but did you know that the address those backlinks point to can be as important as where they come from for your SEO? Search engines and web users know that quality content is the most important thing when it comes to deciding where to go for answers online. Deep backlinks show off the breadth of your website content and give web users more opportunities to stumble onto your material.

Deep backlinks are any link from an outside website (such as a blog, review site, or article) that links to a specific page on your website instead of the main page. For example, if you were to link to a specific story on CNN instead of just their home page. When used with appropriate anchor text (the words that users click on to navigate through the link), deep backlinks show users and search engines that you have valuable content about a specific topic. Sites that make use of deep backlinks generally see significantly more traffic through these than the links to their main page.

Deep backlinks work together with a solid internal link structure to help search engines and users explore the entirety of your website. Like building regular backlinks to your website, getting proper deep links in place can be a hassle without the experience of your local SEO company.

It depends on the URL and keywords that you are targeting. If your keyword is not in your main site URL then using the deep link would be a better option as it will take less effort to get higher search engine rankings as it will have the keyword in the URL itself.

Optimizing is NOT about getting links and getting links for only home page . If you promote with links "home" page, for a couple or three "keywords" then it won't be beneficial. What about the rest of the pages? Are they going to promote or market them selves?

IMO backlinks for all the pages should be collected in the equal ratio, just giving importance to a single or two pages is not good for the overall PR of your website.

Deeplinking is much better than linking to your main page. It shows search engines what the page is about specifically.

Yes it is helpfull but it is sometimes make search engine to reject the crawl because , if you make search engine crawl unwanted pages like contactus.
Then we loose the distribution of traffic over main pages of services and home.

So take care in this and do optimization
