however little value, forum profile links carry some value in terms of backlinks

On some forums you have to login to access member profiles, since google can't login to the forum to access the link does this render the link useless ?

Thanks

Well, links on forum profiles are not meant for improving indexing or ranking... These backlinks helps you in promoting your website to the audience. This is strictly promotion.

Though, websites which offers you to sign up for backlinking (profile linking) are considered as backlinks, but poor quality backlinks.

Forums are the website sections or websites where people asks questions and other people visiting the forum offer answers for them.

However, commenting on the forum just for the sake of backlink is not a good practice. Adding link is good only when it is relevant to the topic and enhance the conversation. Some forums offer do follow backlinks making it useful for SEO. However, those having no follow backlinks are also useful since you can get clicks for your site if the answer that you post on the forum is useful and is able to solve the query.

Forum posting also enhance reputation of your site. So, make use of forums wisely and include link only when it is able to offer relevant information for the question that you are answering.

Well, not necessarily. In fact, building nofollow links can be a great way to drive traffic, boost SEO, leverage social signals and influencer marketing, and create a domino-effect link-building strategy. In other words, nofollow links aren't nearly as bad as they sound.

it's useful if you're talking about creating paths of targeted traffic. It can create a trail of links for people to follow to your site(s). No, it's nearly useless if you are talking about building backlinks. You CAN still use it as a part of your backlinking strategy.
