Good points but what do you actually mean by getting some local links? In today's modern SEO world, most webmasters are trying to improve their ranks on the top search engines including Google, Yahoo and Bing and apparently, links are considered to be universal solutions which can help websites getting finer ranks and positions on all search portals. Links are actually regarded as standard internet-based systems helping domains online.

No matter you build some links through blogging or distributing articles, they would be considered as global solutions and assets rather than local things or items. About local search engines, I guess you refer to the local and country-specific portals and forum sites rather than search engines as today most global webmasters only think of boosting their web values through improving and enhancing their Google ranks.
