Okay... so I have been wondering this for a while. What gives certain threads longevity? How did we maintain the stamina to count to 10000 while couldn't manage a few digits of pi?? Why are some threads SO much more popular than others?
Is it the thread-starters?? Do people see someone with loads of posts and look more favorably on a thread that they've started? Is it the responsibility of the starter to maintain the thread?
Or is it the topic? A more general thread gives more scope, but a specific one could allow more depth...
Why do some threads lie dormant for months before resurfacing? And why are others consigned to the scrapheap the moment they are... threaded?
I'd like to hear your views...
How long will this thread last???...
