The bandwidth is defined as the total data a visitor use browsing your website, When ever he download any file from your website, he uses that value bandwidth.
One must have enough bandwidth for larger traffic websites.

It is very common to find the two words - bandwidth and data transfer, used synonymously on the internet, specially on web host's pricing plans. However, technically speaking, there is quite a difference between these two terms. Bandwidth denotes the volume of data that can be transferred per unit of time. Data transfer is the measure of the traffic generated from your website. The difference is that the bandwidth is a rate of data transfer.

Data transfer is limit of data exchange that can be done on your website. It is basically estimated using vistors strength and page size of download size. However, there are techniques to optimize your data transfer rate.

Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred at one time.
Data transfer is the actual amount of data transferred.

Think of it this way. If bandwidth were a tunnel, the bigger the tunnel the more cars can pass through it. Data transfer would then be the number of cars allowed to go through the tunnel in a given time period, say a month.

The less bandwidth you have, the slower it takes your website to load, regardless of your visitor's connection type. Visitors will have to wait their turn. The less data transfer you have, the more often you will find your website unavailable because you have reached the maximum amount of data allowed to be transferred.
