Can you tell me please Does using automated SEO software cause a website to be penalized?

Automated software will not penalized your website but give bad effect to your keyword.
Automated software automatically do the work for websites. software doesn't check for badl inks and other things.
My suggestion is don't go for it.

It really depends on the software and how you use it.
Also it depends on what it is automating. If you are using automation to find link building sources or finding dofollow forums or social bookmarking submissions, you can’t get penalized for that.
