Windows or Linux (http://myidealhost.com/tutorials/Windows_or_Linux)
Hosting companies provide their services for different operating systems: either Windows or Linux. People are not sure which one to choose. Are there any particular sites that require only Windows hosting? Are there any restriction on Linux servers? Does it actually matter whether to use Linux or Windows hosting? In this article we'll try to shed some light on this point.
To start with, we would like to state that there are no such notions as right or wrong decision in the world of hosting, there are only decisions made without sufficient information and prior analysis. Before making any decisions about your future webhost you should consider all options.
Both Windows and Linux allow you to host your site on the net. However, there are some differences between them. Neither of them is better as they both have their own advantages. Most people are able to use a Linux webhosting plan without any problems. On the other hand, some people might need to run Windows-based web applications for their sites, which are not supported by Linux servers.
You'll be able to use PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python, or CGI scripting on the Linux servers. If you're going to use ASP or ASP.NET, then choose a Windows Hosting account.
Linux servers are more reliable, cheaper and more user-friendly than Windows hosting server. In case you need to run Windows site applications, a Windows webhosting plan would be the best thing to consider.
Before choosing a proper type of hosting system, analyze the programs/software/applications you'll need to run for your site.
Note: The type of hosting server you choose has nothing to do with the operating system you run on your PC.

It depends on what you want to host. Each has a pro and con.

More people prefer to use Linux Hosting if they do not use MSSQL and ASP.net.
Linux will be the best option for them .

I think Linux because Linux is an open source system and is therefore more cost-effective to operate and maintain than Windows, meaning that Linux hosting will cost you less than Windows hosting. Linux also has a reputation for stability and speed which means that Linux web servers will crash less often than Windows web servers and Linux runs most processes faster than Windows.

I recommend you to use Linux servers to host your site or services.., It is more flexible and secure to work. You can install cpanel or any other hosting control panel to host and mange your server.

Linux and windows are itself good in their own terms and conditions. Linux /Macs like UNIX systems are useful for programmers as they don’t have to set paths and all for a program to install while windows is more of GUI than command based. Generally some binaries are not supported in windows so it is advisable to do opensource work in Linux based computer. While for gaming you need windows(Steam os is there ). In windows you have to worry about viruses and all but linux there is no chance of it.. So use both..dual boot option is there for you…

Hi, I found a good aricle for comparing windows VPS vs Linux VPS (https://www.routerhosting.com/linux-vs-windows-vps-compared/)
Which One Is Better?
Some of the main differences between these two VPS OS are as follows:
Cost: Since Linux is open-source. Microsoft owns the license that you need to pay for using it, so Linux may be free of charge or more affordable than Windows VPS.
Compatibility: Linux is best compatible with PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl, or MySQL while Windows compatibility comes for some applications like C#, ASP.net, VB, MySQL, MS Access, and other Microsoft Products.
Usability: Windows is more user-friendly than Linux VPS servers. Thanks to the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and remote desktop that make everything easy.
Performance: the Performance of Linux VPS servers is better because Linux is less demanding on your hardware and frequent reboots are not needed.
Support: Linux Servers are community-driven. On the other hand, Windows benefits from regular updates, the option of server restarting, and 24/7 phone or chat support.
Security: because of being open-source, Linux VPS users get less attention from wrongdoers but user-made errors can be a probable security issue.
Accessibility: both of them support File Transfer Protocol (FTP) but SSH is only possible with Linux servers.

Linux is generally more secure than Windows. Even though attack vectors are still discovered in Linux, due to its open-source technology, anyone can review the vulnerabilities, which makes the identification and resolving process faster and easier.

In every way, the Linux server outperforms the Windows-based server in terms of server security, stability, freedom of choice, hardware compatibility, and cost-effectiveness. Windows is a common desktop operating system (or so novices believe), and Linux is the best server operating system.

Most web hosting service providers offer two kinds of hosting: Linux hosting and Windows hosting. In general, Linux hosting refers to shared hosting, the most popular hosting service in the industry. In fact, most of the websites are now hosted using Linux hosting due to its affordable price and flexibility.
Linux hosting is compatible with PHP and MySQL, which supports scripts such as WordPress, Zen Cart, and phpBB.
Windows hosting, on the other hand, uses Windows as the servers' operating system and offers Windows-specific technologies such as ASP, .NET, Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL server (MSSQL).

Hello,
First you need to work on your requirements, if you want to build some asp.net or windows based application then Windows hosting or OS would right for you. For any other websites like PHP, WordPress, etc Linux is the best choice.
Linux hosting service is more affordable than windows hosting services, so you decide which one will fulfill your requirements. For any kind of hosting requirements, you can visit Webhosting UK (WHUK).

Linux provides excellent speed and security, but Windows provides excellent simplicity of use, allowing even non-technical users to operate efficiently on home computers. Many corporate businesses utilise Linux as a server and operating system for security reasons, whereas Windows is mostly used by business users and gamers.
