There are no sure rules here. Three percent minimum is a safe bet. But this depends how many are the words in your content. The best idea is to use keywords where they are natural in a sentence. Try developing your story around such keywords.

The keyword density should be high enough that a keyword is recognized as a main topic of a page and not an incidental, unimportant word. At the same time, keyword density should not be too high, as some search engines may penalize a page for keyword stuffing. The Keyword Density is an important ranking criterion for many search engines. A high keyword density is interpreted by search engines as a sign of relevant websites. Too high but is interpreted as spam.

The more times the keyword appears in relation to the total number of on page words, the greater the overall keyword density. The more times that other words appear, the lower the proportion of keywords, resulting in a lighter keyword density.

The keyword density tool is useful for helping webmasters and SEOs achieve their optimum keyword density for a set of key terms. Keyword density is important because search engines use this information to categorize a site's theme, and to determine which terms the site is relevant to. The perfect keyword density will help achieve higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or keyword phrase is found in your page content amidst all the other content. For example, if you have a Web page with exactly 100 words on it including all headlines, captions, alt text, and advertising, and you have a keyword phrase that is on the page 3 times, your keyword density is 3%:

# of repeats of the keyword / total number of words on the page * 100 = Keyword Density
Keyword density applies to the page as it displays live on your website. Many people will create content with a high keyword density and then place it on their website with a lot of navigation, images, and advertising content and their actual density will go down.
