Hi,
As digital marketing gurus, we know that in order for our clients company to appear within the top searches, there are some steps that need to be followed. First, we have to claim our address. Google has bots crawling the web searching for information and they will compile that information (without your knowledge!) and automatically list you in their directory. However, to optimize your position within consumer searches, you must first claim your page. Google will then send you a postcard (the address you claimed)with a pin number. Using this pin, you will go online to Google Places and verify your information. It is best if you also provide an optimized description of your company.

An example would be "The ABC Digital Marketing Agency specializes in Organic and Pay Pay Click SEO, web development, social media advertising, and any other digital marketing needs your business may have."

The next step would be to get your companies consumers to write reviews (the more reviews, the more likely you are to fall in the top 10 search results) on your product/ service provided. Make sure that you don't spam the review section (create bogus accounts to boost your company's reputation) as Google can detect this behavior and may even penalize your business.

Another thing to keep in mind when utilizing Google Places is that you will want to be sure that your company is not listed anywhere else with the incorrect contact information, as this may cause Google to list your company again, but this time with incorrect information. An easy way to do this is to simply search major information providers (yellow pages, Urban Spoon, etc.) for your business listing and be sure that your company (if listed) has the correct information.

Finally, be sure that you are creating a buzz via social media about your company. Google recognizes social buzz and is more likely to list your company in the top search results if people are talking about it consistently.
