Logo represents your brand identity therefore you should give great amount of time and thought when designing and implementing your logo.
Logo can be either abstract form or symbolic form.
Design your logo using modern multicolor.
Compress the image format using a good compressor.
For png image format use
1. PNGOptimizer
2. OptiPNG
3. PNGCrush
for JPG
use jpegtran
Do not embed you logo as background image.
Use html img tag to include logo to your website.
Give it a proper name i.e your-company-name, write an appropriate Alt tag.

To optimize your logo, you'll need two things: a copy of a .JPG version of your logo and image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop.

Web sites and PowerPoint presentations work most efficiently with optimized images. To optimize your logo, you'll need a copy of a .JPG version of your logo and image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop.

beside optimizing the quality, give it a proper name, add alt tags, title tags so in this way google can read your logo. if my knowledge are good, google cant index the image unless it has a name, alt, title tags.

A logo is the symbol of your organization's brand. That’s a good reason to focus while planning a logo design. The logo is better to build in JPG or PNG format. And it’s necessary to use adobe dreamweaver or photoshop with the help of various color, shape, font and graphic combination because it will help in creating a striking and attractive logo design which create brand awareness.

Image optimization is about reducing the file size of your images as much as possible without sacrificing quality so that your page load times remain low. It's also about image SEO. That is, getting your product images and decorative images to rank on Google and other image search engines

A simple way to used the following steps:
Use the ALT Attribute
If you’re at all familiar with HTML, you’ve used image tags to place pictures or other graphics on your website. The code looks like this:
<img src=”http://website.com/images/logo.jpg”>
Optimizing the File Name
You should take your optimization to the next level by naming the logo file itself to include your company name and a short description of your company. A logo file simply called “logo.jpg” or “logo.gif” won’t do a lot of good as far as SEO is concerned.
