You see, there is no one recipe (like that for baking cookies) which if followed to the letter gets you best keyword density...The idea is to use them in such a clever fashion that neither does it hinder readability or dilute the real message (as in the case of keyword stuffing), nor is it a case of under-utilization. You can get your paragraph on a paper and read it aloud to ensure that... it reads naturally where a person isn't going to be annoyed...

To say that 0.2% or 2% or 5% is the 'most appropriate' density is something laughable.

I think sometime back "Matt Cutts" has cleared that you should not focus on keyword density rather you should focus on originality and quality of content. That's what general user likes and that's what Google is following as well.

Keyword density refers to the number of times a keyword appears on a given webpage or within a piece of content as a ratio or percentage of the overall word count. This is also sometimes referred to as keyword frequency, or the frequency with which a specific keyword appears on a webpage.

Keyword density is a calculation of word or keyword occurrences usually in a large piece of text. The density is reported in a percentage which is simply calculated with the following formula.

KeywordDensity = (Keyword Count / Word Count) * 100

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In the context of search engine optimization, keyword density can be used to determine whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase.

Keyword density tells you how often a search term appears in a text in relation to the total number of words it contains. For example: if a keyword appears three times in a 100 word text the keyword density would be 3%.

Most SEO experts believe that an ideal keyword density is around 1-2%. This means the target keyword appears about one to two times per 100 words. At this rate, the keyword appears enough times to show search engines what the page is about without engaging in keyword stuffing.

FORMULA to work out the local keyword density of any page:

Density = ( Nkr / ( Tkn -( Nkr x ( Nwp-1 ) ) ) ) x 100
Density = your keyword density
Nkr = how many times you repeated a specific key-phrase
Nwp = number of words in your key-phrase
Tkn = total words in the analysed text

Keyword density is the number of times a searchable keyword appears within the content of a page. It could be an exact-match keyword or a semantic keyword, depending on how a search engine crawler reads your content.

If you want to find out the keyword density for a piece of content, you will need to:

Identify the keyword
Count the total number of words on the page
Divide the number of times the keyword appears with the page’s total word count
Multiply the results with 100

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. Ideally it should be 1% to 2% .
