Hi,
Google’s Shopper mobile app is being introduced for iPhone. It already exists for Android devices. Shopper allows users to search for products by voice, with the camera, via barcode scan or by text entry. Users can also share products on Facebook, Twitter, SMS or email.

Google Shopper shows prices, product reviews and local inventory availability (where that data exists). It goes up against eBay’s RedLaser, Amazon’s apps and a number of other price comparison, reviews and mobile shopping apps.

The common use case for Shopper and most other mobile shopping apps is the following: consumers heading into stores or standing in front of products trying to validate that this item is the right one to buy.

The differentiators for Google Shopper are the flexibility of the app (how you capture/input product data) and the breadth of data on the back end, including local product inventory in nearby stores. By contrast, Amazon only shows you products carried at Amazon.

Though much broader in its potential uses, Google Googles is now relegated to a kind of lab app; in practical or everyday usage Shopper largely replaces it.
