If your site is a static one (just html pages), yes you can.
You need just a ftp program, to upload your files to the server.

Yes, you can, you will have to be pretty good with Linux to create domain names and database all by shell commands but some webmaster uses the bare box with no panel. I have rented a VPS a while back that didn't come with any panel, I end it up installing a free one called CentosPanel or something like that to take care of the basic stuff like DNS setup

Surely you can. A hosting control panel is only a GUI tool that contains automated tools and guraphical interface to simplify the process of managing a server and websites hosted on it.
If you are experienced enough in codes, you can completely host a site without using GUI tools.

Might it be feasible to host a web site without some control pannel computer software or cpannel?

Yes, You'll need a VPS ( Virtual Private Server ) on which to deploy the software you used to run your website. Another solution is to also get a VPS, and instead of cPanel, you can use a free control panel.
