* To start with cube cart and magento, both are open source e-commerce platforms and powered by Php and MySQL technologies. Being open source in nature, these two platforms are very well supported by an active community of developers, constantly trying to improve the features and functionalities. CubeCart offers merchants a 45 day trial which is completely free of cost. CubeCart Lite comes free of cost whereas the CubeCart Pro version comes for $180. The paid version offers unlimited features, license key and professional support too.
* Magento offers more choices to merchants as there is the free community version, paid enterprise version and magento go (a hosted e-commerce solution). Magento certainly has an edge over CubeCart when it comes to features such as products, category, shopping carts, inventory and orders. CubeCart is essentially meant for small business owners selling a handful of products. Whereas magento is the apt platform in case you want to deal in tens of thousands of products.
* Another area, in which magento wins in front of CubeCart is the ability to create and manage multiple stores. Online merchants can set up different magento websites for dealing in different products and manage it from a single admin panel.
* Magento has advanced functionalities such as product types. There are six product types you can create with magento namely simple, grouped, configurable, bundled, virtual and downloaded.
* CubeCart is certainly simpler to use and manage than magento, since the latter is an advanced platform based on Zend framework. Magento, has its share of disadvantages, it does not offer the facility to view all products in the store on one page irrespective of the category. Next, magento themes are skins are difficult to handle and work on if you don’t have technical expertise. At times, it can slow on servers. One needs to have powerful servers and caching layers.
* Magento is not easy to learn. You need to have knowledge of Java, Object-Oriented Programming, Php, Zend and MySQL. One needs to spend considerable amount of time to learn Magento.
* CubeCart boasts of some powerful features such an intuitive panel, search engine friendly URLs, support for different payment gateways, plug-ins and modules.

Magento is the most powerful shopping cart. It gives wide opportunities for customization and business growth.
It also has a great community, where you can find answers for your questions.
Moreover a huge number of extensions makes this platform very flexible.
You can read this article (http://www.shopping-cart-migration.com/blog/42-magento/10588-5-reasons-why-magento-rules-ecommerce) and find out what features can be useful for the online store.
