There are a lot of readily available statistics on this. Not sure how you define popular but if you mean the engine that gets the most searches that is google obviously :)

Google has 90%! global search market share and dominates in most countries. They almost have a global monopoly on search.

Exceptions are japan (where yahoo dominates), korea (where google is non-existent) china, (baidu) and russia where yandex is the most popular engine.

In the US bing and yahoo have just over 30% , and google most of the remaining share.

I like to use bing as well it sometimes returns nice websites and has a simple clean interface... yahoo is slowly dying IMO.
