5. Here is how I do the keyword research:

1. First of all I prepare a set of the keywords which I will be offering as Services or Solutions.
2. Then I enter those keywords in the keyword research tool to look for the related keywords, search volume and the competition. I like SEMRush and Google Adwords Keyword Tool.
3. I pick up keywords with high search volume, high popularity (Popularity is the number of times a keyword has appeared in Keyword Research Tools.
) and medium competition (Competition is the number of websites when a keyword is searched.).
4. Then I find out KEI. Keyword Effectiveness Index: KEI compares Popularity with the number of competing web pages to pinpoint exactly which keywords are most effective for your website.
5. And then KOI. Keyword Opportunity Index: KOI compares the Popularity with the number of competing web pages using "Allinanchor" operator.

Keywords are backbone of websites. if there would be anything wrong in selecting keywords or the keywords which are not best match for your website then it will be the biggest fault in your website. Because the relevancy in keyword and content is the main criteria from the Search Engine point of views. So always be careful while selecting keywords.

As already my forum friends have suggested how to search keywords and on what basis, so I won't repeat. But I would like to say the best tool for keyword research is Google Adwords tool. It gives more precise results then any other tool.
