Is this a question or just a piece of information? Please use this forum for a question instead of just writing something.

Secure Sockets Layer, a protocol developed by Netscape for transmitting private documents via the Internet. SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data − a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message. Both Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer support SSL, and many Web sites use the protocol to obtain confidential user information, such as credit card numbers. By convention, URLs that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http

There are some popular types of SSL like geotrust, comodo and verisign.

SSL Certification is needed for such dynamic websites that require high security for storing and fetching users' personal information regarding their passwords/usernames/ bank accounts etc. Most of banking sites across the world and payment gateways need this certification so that data could travel in a safe and secure layer of the Internet where hacking could not be possible.

SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization’s details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol (over port 443) and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. Typically, SSL is used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer and logins, and more recently is becoming the norm when securing browsing of social media sites.

An SSL certificate is a bit of code on your web server that provides security for online communications. When a web browser contacts your secured website, the SSL certificate enables an encrypted connection. It's kind of like sealing a letter in an envelope before sending it through the mail.
