Many people have been asking about upgrading to Exchange 2007. This version of Microsoft Exchange has many new and future features that the older versions do not. The unified messaging system will allow to access all your communications through Outlook – voice mail, faxes and of course email. The new design of Outlook Web Access (OWA) is very slick, and looks & handles almost like the desktop version of Outlook. Another feature slated to be releases is Outlook Voice Access (OVA) – as the name implies you will be able to access your messages over the phone including your emails & calendar items. Imagine sending an Outlook meeting request by talking (not typing) on your cell phone.

With all that, many of these new features are not yet available. There are also features from Exchange 2003 that do not yet work in Exchange 2007. If you are looking at a hosted solution, check to see if the provider used a Microsoft Designed & Tested Platform for Exchange 2007. Some companies just set it up without going through rigorous testing, while other’s released it using the beta version.

If you are one of those that absolutely positively need to be on the bleeding edge, then by all means do so – sign up for Exchange 2007. Just be aware of the limitations. For those that are not sure, or do not need it I would suggest staying with Exchange 2003 at least until service pack 1 (SP1) is released.

Also, 2007 requires 64bit machine. So put that into consideration too for those that are running a clustered environment... It could get costly.

Exchange is just based on IMAP - so why not use IMAP and save the Licensing Fees?

Granted, it doesn't come with OWA

Exchange is much more then just the email that you can get with IMAP

While Exchange originated as an e-mail system, it has evolved to support calendaring, meeting and task management, web-based e-mail access, and other business support features. The current version is Exchange Server 2003. Exchange Server 2007 is expected to be availble early in 2007 and will feature integrated voicemail, speech and speech recognition which can read e-mail to users over the phone and respond to their spoken instructions, enhanced anti-spam protection, and enhanced e-mail compliance features...

Hi Derek,

Yes the Exchange System Management tool is installed on the backup server.

How would installing the full version of UltraBac on the Exchange server affect licensing?

Thanks,
Dennis

How did you install? You can't just install a new version and copy the database over, it's not that simple.
Your best option is to run EXMERGE on the old Exchange server and migrate. I would suggest exporting to PST and then importing to the new server, it will be much easier.
If you've done the proper migration and the server will still not mount, then you need to run the ISINTEG utility on your databases

When installing Exchange 2007 SP1 on multiple Exchange 2007 servers within an organization, we recommend that you first upgrade the Client Access servers. In an organization that has multiple Active Directory sites that use multiple Client Access servers in a proxy situation, you must upgrade the Internet-facing Client Access servers before the Client Access servers that are not Internet-facing.

The process involved in installing Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 is no doubt a child's play. But, if you are willing to uninstall Exchange 2007, you will face some fishy things.

I came to know from this thread that everyone has their own views. Exchange Server 2007 provides a reliable messaging system, with built-in protection against spam and viruses. Using Exchange 2007, users throughout your organization can access e-mail, voice mail, calendars, and contacts from a wide variety of devices and from any location.

Solution: If you were to go On-Premise, you will need to do a dual upgrade. Exchange 2007 does not have a single upgrade option for 2016.

Better to update to 2016 or Office 365 as even Exchange 2010 is going out of support.

Apps4Rent (https://www.apps4rent.com/) provides 24/7 end-user support on Exchange 2016 and Exchange services.
