I have heard a tool called open site explorer for doing analysis of our competitors. But i am not able to quiet understand it how to use, so if any SEO Expert can help me. And also how much it is effective??

Using open site explorer you can analyze your competitor’s total backlinks, Dofollow and nofollow backlinks. If you are premium member of SEOMoz then you analyze also social media backlinks like Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

I would suggest you to try on spyglass SEO where you not only can analyze your site and you can analyze competitor site as well.
You can analyze their search ranking for keywords in local search engine and other search engine all around the world and their site all backlink.
It good for us to check where your competitor build their backlink and you can go the same way like they did to stay competitive or do better than them.

It is better not to use tool for analyzing the competitor websites. Just you can put your site main keywords in search results and pick out the first 5 sites which are nothing but your site competitor. Make a table, to know what they have implemented and try to find the ways what they are using in order to get ranked in search engines. I advise you to do manual analyzes instead of tool.
