I'm trying to set up my server so that I can host website from it for other people, I was wondering what a decent control panel would be and any other software I would need to manage and have it up and running.

Thanks in advance!

Have you bought dedicated server or just colocation. As far as I know many copanies over there offering managed dedicated servers. Please clarify.

If you don't have admin experience I would highly recommend to get a fully managed server, because otherwise you might run into admin and security problems.

I already recommended DirectAdmin control panel in your other thread, as for the software it depends on what software you need. There is a lot of free software for Linux, so most likely the only thing you need to pay for is the control panel.

CPanel seems to be the choice of my web hosting companies. We use Ensim on our servers and are happy with it.

I recommend WebHost Automation Limited, not expensive and its very stable and feature rich. You can automate your hosting business with the help of this control panel software. This could save you astounding money: well over $20,000.
Here's you can get (for Free!)
Hope it helps.

I would recommend cpanel or plesk. They are pretty good, will automate almost everything for you.

Cpanel should be your choice......its widely recognised and customers relate to it better...coz they have already used it somewhere before......

WebHost Automation Limited make HELM control panel, which is very decent and stable control panel (I've seen a few minor bugs, which were quickly fixed). Keep in mind that it works with Windows only though.

There are a few dedicated server hosts that will actually set up Plesk or CPanel for you. This service is charged per domain name hosted on the server and typically the starting package is for 20 domain names. If you are inexperienced, the best thing to do IMHO is to outsource as much of the management as possible. Focus on your marketing, sales, and support processes

I would recomend you have a look on custom panels offering nowadays. They seem to be easier and not so huge. But it depends on your needs anyway.
God luck.
