Hi,
A site map (with which you may well be familiar) is an HTML page containing an ordered list of all the pages on your site (or, for a large site, at least the most important pages). Sitemap can be XML, TXT or HTML usually XML and TXT is served for robots.

The purpose of a site map is to spell out your website's central content themes and to show both search engine spiders and your visitors where to find information on your site.

Traditional site maps are static HTML files that outline the first and second level structure of a website. The original purpose of a site map was to enable users to easily find items on the website. Over time, they also became useful as a shortcut method to help search engines find and index all the parts of a site.

I agreed that sitemap.xml file is used to instruct google to crawl and index all the pages of website which this file has. Sitemap.html file is used for visitors to easily find all the pages of website.

XML Sitemap is an easy way for you to submit all your URLs to the Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google. This helps search engines to more intelligently crawl a website and keep their results up to date.

A sitemap is a way of telling search engines of all the new pages from your site. It is very important to have one for your site. You can use the Webmaster tools from Google to submit one or you can manually notify Google of content changes from your site with their "ping" option.

It is always a best case scenario to have a flat navigational structure that is appropriately tiered from the home page. This will enable an interlinking relationship which maximizes the authority of the home page; allowing the homepages link-weight to be distributed optimally throughout the site. Most people understand this concept but you would be surprised how often we run into websites that could be better utilizing their home page authority. While an SEO company will always look to correct this, it is not always a quick fix to reconstruct navigation.

A site map (or sitemap) is a list of pages of a web site accessible to crawlers or users. It can be either a document in any form used as a planning tool for Web design, or a Web page that lists the pages on a Web site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion. There are two popular versions of a site map. An XML Sitemap is a structured format that a user doesn't need to see, but it tells the search engine about the pages in your site, their relative importance to each other, and how often they are updated. HTML sitemaps are designed for the user to help them find content on the page, and don't need to include each and every subpage. This helps visitors and search engine bots find pages on the site.

A sitemap is basically an additional page on your website that incorporates a list of links to every single page on your site and can also detail the pecking order of pages on your site. Implementing a sitemap is essential from a search engine optimization point of view as it makes it easier for Google and other search engines to crawl your site and identify what every page of your site is about.
