Cross linking is defined by the linking to onsite content elsewhere, on the same website. For example, in this paragraph, the term "search engine optimization" is being cross linked for reference purposes.A cross-link is therefore a link to a website, which already can include a link to the linking page verweist.Eine strikingly strong cross-linking may result in the participating sites are punished.Cross Linking is a popular technique designed to build traffic and increase PageRank. It relies on two websites agreeing to point an outbound-link to the other site. Many website owners spend a great deal of time exchanging links in this way and it is certainly a good way of initially getting yourself indexed by search engines and, if done correctly, getting some good anchor text.

A cross-link is a bond that links one polymer chain to another. They can be covalent bonds or ionic bonds. "Polymer chains" can refer to synthetic polymers or natural polymers (such as proteins). When the term "cross-linking" is used in the synthetic polymer science field, it usually refers to the use of cross-links to promote a difference in the polymers' physical properties.Side by side (lateral) linking in which two or more adjacent molecules of a polymer join to form a bigger molecule. Cross-linking makes a polymer harder and raises its melting point.
