it is use for transfer the authority of your website or page to new domain or page and your old page permanently moved to new one. Google prefers 301 rather then 302. In SEO all count is authority as i describe it helps you to gain maximum authority of your old page.

301 redirection is permanent redirection from one url to another.
For example if your previous website was a(.)com and you wanted to change it to b(.)com , you would implement a 301 redirect from old to new so whoever typed your URL would automatically appear at your new URL.

If any user want to change the URL of a page as it is shown in search engine results then we suggest that you can utilize a server-side 301 redirect. This is the best way to ensure that users and search engines are directed to the correct page. The 301 status code means that a page has permanently moved to a new location.

301 redirects are used to permanently move a site to a new location. Search engines do not apply penalties to 301 redirects the way they apply them to many other types of redirects.
When you create a .htaccess file make sure you transfer it in ASCII and not binary. You will probably want to CHMOD the file to 644 for security reasons as well. .htaccess is an Apache technology and not a windows server technology.

The basic use of 301 redirect
1.Redirect Old pages to new pages
2.Redirect Folder
3.Canonical Domain Re-Writing
4.Dynamic URL Rewrite
5.Redirect All Pages to Another Domain
6.pointing Old Domain to New Domain
This 301 is also used by SEO webmaster because this is permanent and not count in spamming.

301 redirection is a permanent redirection. For example you have developed a new website and want the search engines should know the new location. You can used a 301 redirection for your old domain to new domain.

Similarly you have removed or modified some older webpages with new ones. you can use the 301 redirection to inform the search engines the same.

In the language of HTTP the status code 301 means that the page requested has been permanently moved to a new location. This code encourages clients accessing the URL to change their database to the new location as the page will never return at the requested location.

A 301 redirect tells the search engine that the page has moved permanently to the new URL. A 302 redirect tells the search engine that the move is only temporary, earch engines handle 301 redirects the same but Search engines handle 302 redirects very differently thats why i think 301 redirect is better.

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another. 301 redirects send site visitors and search engines to a different URL than the one they originally typed into their browser or selected from a search engine results page
