When you are looking for a host what is the most important thing you look for before you feel comfortable signing up with them?

Resource Abuse Policy, Community forum, check if the host hasn't been blacklisted, then reviews and testimonials.

I dunno guys most shared hosts now are plum ridiculous on resource restrictions. You cant have much traffic at all on most hosts without getting suspended or forced into an upgrade.
If I was looking for shared hosting that would be my first one too. I know back in the day when i was a consumer, had my own site and all the most dreaded thing was that Account Suspended - contact billing/support dept. It happened to me once and I was so embarrassed. It made it look like I dont pay my bills. So I made it a rule to check that before anything

I check resolution time guarantee, I think that's essential to know your issues will be fixed within a certain amount of time, and if not you'll be given some credit to your hosting account.
There are companies with such policies, and the amount of credit differs, say Webhostgiant.com offer $10.00.
Do you know any other host offering more?

support, features and uptime, not necessarily in that order. I prefer cpanel hosting and make sure that there are no unnecessary restrictions like safe mode etc.
Otherwise, a friendly and fast support helps a lot and dont want my site to go down too many times a day :)
And ofcourse, the price matters too!

Always test their live chat or phone support to make sure they respond in a timely manner and are knowledgeable.

I would look for good reviews from customers, decent price and decent features as well.

Feedbacks of the clients of this or that host are very important for me.

I would ask for something like trial period.

- good website
- decent reviews
- a clean TOS
- quick support, usually send the host a question through their support system and see how long it takes to get a response. if the response takes more than 24 hours, then i am gone.
